Xenomorph Launches Version 5.0 of TimeScape EDM+
Latest release offers faster and more scalable architecture, new functionality, improved GUI and data integration / distribution options.
NEW YORK AND LONDON – Xenomorph, a provider of data management technology to banks, asset managers and insurance companies, has launched Version 5.0 of its flagship enterprise data management platform TimeScape EDM+. The new release offers a faster and more scalable data architecture, new functionality, enhancements to the user interface and additional data handling components to accommodate more sources and data distribution options. Version 5.0 has already been rolled out by a number of Xenomorph clients, who were able to upgrade seamlessly without having to change their data model, their existing configurations or integrations with other data sources or data-consuming applications.
Faster data processing has been achieved by leveraging enhanced multi-threading capabilities for calculations and parallelising QL+ queries for faster data retrieval. New data handling capabilities include a Tableau data extractor, enhancements to OData Services (for ease of integration with Microsoft PowerBI and other consuming applications) as well as further enrichments to the TimeScape SQL Server API.
The latest release of TimeScape EDM+ also includes a number of pre-configured modules to address common business- and regulatory-driven challenges. These modules are designed to cover all key data management workflows supporting risk, product and valuation control functions. For example, the latest modules to be released including price verification (IPV) processes, market conformity checks (MCC) and other best execution workflows relevant to MiFID II. Other modules available (or in development) include valuation adjustments (xVA and prudent valuation) and a full range of FRTB-related data management processes – including real price modellability, risk factor mapping and repository, model calibration, P&L attribution and back-testing.
The release also adds enriched functionality to Xenomorph’s SpreadSheet Inside (SSI), an application within TimeScape EDM+ that combines the user-friendly interface of a spreadsheet with the scalability, auditability and control of an enterprise software platform. “The SSI interface already had the familiar look and feel of a spreadsheet but with some key advantages – like the ability to represent data arrays within a single cell,” Brian Kristensen, CTO says. SSI enables users to represent multi-dimensional business objects–like volatility surfaces, interest rate curves or historical time series–in a single cell entry. In fact, collections of these objects can just as easily be represented as a single cell.
“For example, if I wanted to refer to all the bonds in my portfolio and list out their future cashflows I could do that in one cell,” Matthew Skinner, COO says. “Suppose I wanted to sum all those cashflows together. That could be quite a cumbersome operation in a spreadsheet. In TimeScape EDM+ it can be done by applying a single function to a single cell, which you can then expand out to view your consolidated projected cashflow across the portfolio,” he adds.
The new editing tools incorporated into this release of Spreadsheet Inside include features such as Intellisense, which understands the business semantics of SSI and helps to auto-complete queries and operations. The interface has also incorporated improved dependency tracking, cell name management and cell reference management – ensuring users can easily see the relationship between cells, as well as functions and formulae that reference those cells.
In addition to providing a highly intuitive and familiar user interface, SSI runs all calculations on server-side infrastructure that provides for additional scalability, performance and control. SSI also ensures any calculation falls under its auditable workflows, giving audit and control teams clear line of sight into how data was derived, which input sources were used, who made changes and when they were made.
By running spreadsheet-like calculations on centrally managed Enterprise software, firms can also take advantage of tighter access controls to protect their intellectual property. “Our customers use SSI to support a wide range of critical business functions,” Matthew Skinner says. “From calculating the price of an index, portfolio or basket of stocks; deriving proprietary analytics like TWAP and VWAP; performing regression and correlation analysis; modelling cashflows; interpolating missing data points on a curve or surface; or carrying out more complex exercises like best execution or performance attribution analysis – all of these processes can benefit from these latest enhancements,” he adds.
