TimeScape Data Validation Task Services provide the mechanism by which simple and complex data can be automatically checked, cleaned and approved within databases.
Users can set up Data Validation Tasks which can then be scheduled to run at any frequency, for example following the download or import of close of business data.
These tasks can use any of the standard validation tests provided with the system, such as checking for gaps, spikes, repeated “stale” data, outliers or comparing values between data vendors.

The range of tests can also be applied to more complex business objects such as curves, spread curves and volatility surfaces.
TimeScape comes with a number of preconfigured tests for handling time-series data, curves or surfaces. These can be used in any combination and scheduled to run based on filters you specify for the target instruments you wish to test.
For example, you may wish to run one sets of validations test for US equities, a different set for German derivatives and a different set for spread curves. TimeScape’s flexible data model make it easy for you to do this.
In addition, the Task SDK provided with the system allows you to extend the range of validation tests to meet your specific needs. This reflects TimeScape’s open design philosophy in that the system must be sufficiently flexible to adapt to changing business needs and empower customers to extend it if needed. Being able to extending the range of validation tests and actions is a natural extension of that philosophy.
Once the Data Validation Tasks have been run, users can review the results (if manual intervention is required) from within the TimeScape Workbench Data Validation module.

Here, users view, chart, edit and approve data depending on the nature of the data being validated. Changes are automatically audited by the system for future reference within the database.
Additional links are also provided to corporate action data which may prove useful in the approval decision making process. This data (if available) may include stock splits, dividend payments or other type of corporate action depending on your organisation’s needs.
In addition, users can also call on exchange or country information to see whether holidays occurred which may explain why particular gaps or spikes have appeared in the data.
