TimeScape Data Services

TimeScape Data Services provide the crucial linkage between databases and users, allowing data to be requested or saved as needed by end users and applications.

Data Services interact with Connectivity Services to acquire data from external systems and data feeds. They then present these databases in a unified manner to all requesting applications and services, so that the caller does not need to be concerned with how the data is being acquired from the underlying source. In addition to data from external systems, TimeScape Data Services also provide access to TimeScape XDB databases which are optimised for the storage of financial data.

Developer access to Data Services is provided via a number of APIs which can be used according to your development environment of choice.

TimeScape Workbench Data View

The TimeScape Workbench Data View (shown below) makes extensive use of TimeScape Data Services to load the physical data from a database and present that information to the end-user in an intuitive manner.

Workbench Data View

In this case, licensed equity data has been captured for both Reuters and Bloomberg and is being visually compared within the Workbench (Bloomberg is the longer series).

This data may have originated in many ways such as from a file import, data capture or calculation process.

TimeScape Data Services provide normalised access to the data and allow it to be easily compared side-by-side across data vendors, including cross-referencing of multiple coding systems (such as ISIN, CUSIP, SEDOL, RIC, Bloomberg etc).

Clients can use TimeScape applications to access data in this way or choose any of the many APIs available to bring that data into their own applications or spreadsheets as needed.

In addition to raw data access, TimeScape also provides powerful basket analysis tools for calculating fixed or time-varying basket measures over time (e.g. portfolio historical performance, index re-composition etc.).
