TimeScape Connectivity Services
TimeScape Connectivity Services provide connectivity normalisation between TimeScape and external data providers such as data feeds, databases and other systems or services.
They allow data to be easily exchanged so that external data providers can be used as part of bulk downloads, tick capture tasks or ad-hoc instantaneous requests for data.
The physical connection between TimeScape and the external data provider are provided by TimeScape Data Drivers which are responsible for managing the exchange of data between TimeScape and the external data source. This connection is achieved using proprietary protocols that have been designed to allow almost any form of data to be exchanged and normalised into the TimeScape data infrastructure.
TimeScape includes a number of pre-packaged drivers to allow users to connect to standard data feeds and systems, including:
- Reuters
- Bloomberg
- FAME
These connections can be used to load data directly from feeds either as one-off snap requests or as updating “Tick-by-Tick” events (depending on the capability of the data source).
TimeScape Connectivity Services can also be extended by developers by using the TimeScape Data SDK. This development toolkit enables the creation of custom connections to data feeds or databases beyond those that are provided by Xenomorph as standard. The Data SDK is a C API which allows synchronous or asynchronous connections to be added depending on the requirements of your organisation.
In addition to connections via Data Drivers, TimeScape also supports simple read-only access for time-series data via ODBC. This connection is often useful as an interim step, prior to full blown implementation of a data driver to the external data source.
