At a charity go-kart race last week, sponsored by software house Xenomorph, the data vendors' results look very much like their market image. Reuters, with three racing teams, ended up in 2nd, 5th and 11th (out of 13) - big, showy and all over the place. Bridge with two teams, came in 4th and 9th - trying hard but ending up with a disappointing showing, pipped by Primark's Financial Information Division (known to us as Datastream/ICV). Bloomberg quietly walked away with first place, despite having only one team racing - simple, elegant, winning. Half of the £1,000 raised by the Xenomorph event went to the British Heart Foundation, and Bloomberg decided to send the other half to the Kosovo appeal.
